According to tech media reports on May 28, multiple new models of Meta’s AI glasses recently passed the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification. Relevant documents reveal that the model numbers for these new products include G4QM, G4QR, G4QS, and G4Q, signaling a potential further expansion of Meta’s smart glasses product matrix.

Although a vast amount of information in the public filings has been redacted, two specific details from the remaining contents have captured the industry’s attention: the first is a change in the entity filing for the certification, and the second is the simultaneous appearance of a mysterious “debug tool.”
Historically, for the Ray-Ban smart glasses launched through Meta’s partnership with global eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, the FCC certification documents were typically submitted by EssilorLuxottica.
When the two companies launched their new smart glasses this spring, the certification work was similarly handled by EssilorLuxottica. However, the FCC filings for these latest eyewear models did not follow that convention.
Notably, the only prior instance of a similar filing anomaly occurred during the development of Meta’s Ray-Ban Display smart glasses project. Consequently, some analysts believe that this shift in the certification filings may indicate that Meta is preparing a new generation of smart glasses equipped with display functions.
Alternatively, another viewpoint suggests that this change could hint at Meta bringing in a new hardware partner, or it might even indicate the possibility of Meta launching its own self-branded smart glasses product line.
Mysterious Debug Tool Exposed Simultaneously
Appearing alongside the new glasses in the FCC database is a device labeled as a “Debug Tool.”
According to the document descriptions, this tool appears capable of directly connecting the glasses to a computer via a USB interface, providing support for equipment debugging, log reading, software development, or firmware testing.
While the FCC documents have not yet disclosed the specific purpose or technical details of the tool, its emergence indicates that Meta may be establishing a more comprehensive development and testing ecosystem for its next generation of AI glasses.
Continuous Expansion of the AI Glasses Product Layout
In recent years, Meta has continuously doubled down on the smart glasses track, successfully pushing AI glasses into the mainstream consumer market with its Ray-Ban Meta series. Driven by the evolution of generative AI, multimodal interaction, and wearable computing, smart glasses are progressively becoming a vital vehicle for Meta’s layout of next-generation computing platforms.
The simultaneous entry of multiple new equipment models into the FCC certification pipeline demonstrates that Meta is accelerating its product iteration cycle. Whether these upcoming products will be equipped with display modules, adopt a brand-new branding strategy, or introduce new partners remains to be seen as Meta releases further information.
Based on the currently disclosed details, Meta’s next-generation AI glasses product line is poised to present a more diverse array of forms, with display functionalities and a more robust developer ecosystem expected to become key focus areas for its subsequent development.
